Commander Plouzot<\/em><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

During our stay on the Marion Dufresne, we were interested in Commander Plouzot\u2019s career. The commander Plouzot works from 20 years in the maritime transport of ores, cereals, submarine cables, and arrived on this ship 6 months ago. However, it is the first research vessel he has commanded. Concerning his work rhythm, he alternates between 2 months at sea (work) and 2 months on the ground (vacations). He explained to us that, over the years, it is like 35 hours a week. During these two months, the captain\u00a0 is required to make important decisions about the navigation, the crew and the operations realised on board. In his opinion, the most difficult is the management of the crisis. It can concern the crew or it can be an external event (fire, flood\u2026). The fire is the most dreaded, and it is why exercises are often organised. Mister Plouzot specified that during these moments, \u201cthe bad decision is the one we don\u2019t make\u201d. Finally, he told us that, as a young officer, he followed the news from Marion Dufresne. He feels so proud to command this \u201cendearing ship\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This article (in French) from the Journal de Mayotte<\/a><\/strong> of the October 8th 2025 talk about the experience of the four students from the Mayotte\u2019s University on board for the MAYOBS33 campaign and take the testimony of Jean-Christophe Komorowski, responsible of the volcanologic and seismologic Observatories at REVOSIMA during the stopover in Mamoudzou, the October 5th 2025, for the Resilience Day\u00a0 (see the story of this day by the students in the Logbook<\/a><\/strong>).
