of the 2024 and 2025 editions, 12 students once again had the opportunity to take part in the OBS-3D PIM, supervised by Marion Jaud and Emmanuel Augereau, from 5 to 9 January 2026.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, despite challenging weather conditions, students were able to carry out methodological tests at IUEM, followed by field surveys (\u201cin situ\u201d measurements) for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>coastal cliff monitoring at Le Grand Dellec and Porsmilin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>mapping the distribution of blue mussels at Le Petit Minou<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><em><strong>From 6 to 10 January 2025, 12 students took part in the OBS-3D PIM OBS-3D, organised by <\/strong><\/em><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www-iuem.univ-brest.fr\/equipe\/augereau-emmanuel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Emmanuel Augereau<\/a><\/em><\/strong><em><strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www-iuem.univ-brest.fr\/equipe\/jaud_marion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marion Jaud<\/a> from the<a href=\"https:\/\/www-iuem.univ-brest.fr\/pole-image-et-instrumentation-p2i\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Image and Instrumentation Unit (P2i)<\/a> within IUEM. This immersive week offered participants an introduction to the world of 3D imaging, a promising technology for observational sciences.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop was part of the multidisciplinary observation missions led by IUEM, focusing on the \u201cHuman\u2013Land\u2013Sea\u201d continuum. Participants experimented with a 3D imaging acquisition method using low-cost devices. This approach opens up interesting perspectives for developing innovative observation strategies adapted to the diverse needs of coastal stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students alternated between theoretical sessions and practical applications:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Laboratory sessions:<\/strong> introduction to 3D imaging technology and its scientific potential<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fieldwork:<\/strong> hands-on practice of image acquisition methods, testing low-cost devices, and collecting data in real conditions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Processing and analysis workshops:<\/strong> optimisation of protocols and reflection on potential applications in geomorphology, marine biology and Exchanges with researchers and local stakeholders helped refine these ideas, integrating the specific needs of the relevant disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The week concluded with a collective presentation, during which students shared their work and the perspectives they had identified. Facilitating methods and the use of more &#8221;mainstream&#8221; sensors opens up opportunities to develop new observation strategies.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In January 2024, as part of a joint interdisciplinary project (PIM), a group of Masters students from UBO, UBS and ENSTA Bretagne worked with observation professionals at IUEM on a method of acquiring 3D imagery using a low-cost device. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This PIM was like diving into the field of observation and 3D reconstruction. The students tested the method on site, and optimised and validated a protocol.
