The world of deep-sea ecosystems, particularly that of hydrothermal vents, remains largely unknown yet utterly fascinating. Through a series of meetings with experts from Ifremer (in geology, mapping, technology, and environmental management) and a visit to the Deep Environment Laboratory, students were able to immerse themselves in these remote and challenging environments and better understand the issues surrounding the potential exploitation of their mineral resources.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through writing, acting, and stage design workshops with the Brest-based theatre company Teatr Piba<\/a><\/em>, students transformed the results of their reflections into three short, immersive theatrical pieces, which they performed for the public during the PIM Forum<\/strong> on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of this PIM, students had gained valuable knowledge about deep-sea environments and developed greater awareness of the challenges linked to deep-sea mining, as well as of innovative solutions and future scientific, legal, and societal challenges. They learned to view these issues from new perspectives and to express them in creative and original ways. They also discovered the value of transdisciplinarity, both for communicating their research results and for enriching their scientific thinking and approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
