Supervised by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www-iuem.univ-brest.fr\/equipe\/corre-josephine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jos\u00e9phine Corre<\/a><\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/isblue.fr\/isblue-hub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISblue HUB<\/a> \/ UBO) and <a href=\"https:\/\/yaplusk.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Romain Maurer<\/strong> (Ya+K)<\/a>, participants collaborated with the Brest-based company <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwilen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gwilen<\/a><\/strong>, which transforms marine sediments from dredging into eco-friendly construction materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of the workshop was clear: <strong>help Gwilen tackle a real operational challenge while balancing ecological and economic constraints.<\/strong> The company\u2019s mission (to turn marine waste into valuable resources) requires constant optimisation, particularly in logistics, storage, and transport of sediments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students began by visiting the company\u2019s facilities and meeting the team to gain a full understanding of its production process. They examined key questions such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>What are the most suitable dredging sites for sediment collection?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can storage be optimised to reduce environmental impact and costs?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Which transport methods best balance economic efficiency and sustainability?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where is available land for potential site installation?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What local distribution options exist around these zones?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop followed a <strong>Service Learning<\/strong> approach, enabling students to work on a real business issue with tangible impact. This setting offered valuable insight into the challenges faced by a growing company and taught participants to design practical solutions tailored to real-world needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PIM highlighted the students\u2019 creativity and analytical skills, as well as their ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.
