Advancing environmental assessment methodologies is a key concern for lecturers and researchers alike. It was within this context that a masterclass dedicated to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was organised, a major methodology used to measure the environmental impact of products, services and systems.
Led by Etienne Lees-Perasso, the training aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of both the theoretical and practical principles of LCA. This internationally recognised tool is widely used by industry, academia and public authorities to assess and improve their environmental approaches.
Designed for lecturers and academic researchers, the masterclass required participants to already possess a basic understanding of environmental issues as well as introductory knowledge of LCA. Spread over two half-day sessions held two weeks apart, the programme was structured around the following themes:
To meet participants’ needs, the masterclass was offered both in person and online, enabling up to 12 participants to benefit from an interactive and immersive learning experience while accommodating geographical constraints.
This initiative forms part of a broader movement supported by the Socio-Ecological Transformations (SET) programmes developed within ISblue institutions. By combining methodological development, practical examples and interactive discussion, the masterclass strengthened participants’ understanding of LCA, an essential tool for addressing the environmental challenges of today and tomorrow.
