From 5 to 22 July 2024, the HAITI-TWIST campaign focused on the geological hazards occurring on the North-Caribbean plate boundary, where a system of twin transform faults – the ‘Septentrional-Oriente’ and ‘Enriquillo-Plantain Garden’ faults – has produced major earthquakes (most recently in 2010 and 2021) and devastating tsunamis in the past.
As part of the French Oceanographic Fleet’s research campaigns at sea operated by Ifremer, students can take part in missions in the form of floating universities. With the support of ISblue, 8 students joined the multi-disciplinary scientific team for the HAITI-TWIST campaign, taking part in activities on board the Pourquoi Pas?. They were supervised by Jacques Déverchère, Professor at the University of Brest (UBO).
