RISCOREV: COastal RISks and Virtual REality

The aim of this project is to offer a training tool on two coastal threats (erosion and submersion) using virtual environments (Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality) for elected representatives and residents, in order to initiate discussions on limiting future vulnerability to coastal risks.

Original Features of the Project

• Better understanding of coastal risks, whether erosion or flooding
• Exploring virtual and augmented reality with specialists from ENIB’s European Centre for Virtual Reality (CERV)
• Meeting local managers to build scenarios together
• Thinking about how to carry out an acculturation project for a wide range of audiences
• Working in a multidisciplinary approach

Results

• 3 years of workshops between students from the ‘Environmental Expertise and Management’ Master’s programme and final-year ENIB engineering school students;
• 2 towns selected in Brittany, France (a fictive twon and Guisseny) for their exposure to the risks of erosion and flooding;
• 4 different scenarios designed to meet the needs of the municipality and the target audience for the virtual reality experiment;
• 1 presentation of the project to the Guisseny town council;
• 1 mixed reality prototype produced in Guisseny;

Multidisciplinary Team

2025: Appearance on the Tébéo programme “Bonjour Bretagne, spécial mer” on the RISCOREV project in Guissény, broadcast on 11th June.

2024: Article in La vie ouvrière, published in July, entitled “Guissény (Finistère), le bord de mer contre vents et marées” (Guissény, Finistère, the seaside against winds and tides) for the presentation of the RISCOREV demonstrator.
