Seminar by Dr Peng Peng – Uncovering the maritime transportation dynamics using big data

Iwan Le Berre (LETG/UBO) welcomes Peng Peng, associate professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (LREIS: State Key Laboratory of Resources and Environmental Information System, Beijing), for a visit to LETG from 5 January to 4 February 2026.

Dr Peng Peng will host a seminar on Tuesday 20^th January at 1.30pm (IUEM, room B-220).

This talk explores the application of maritime big data to uncover transportation dynamics across global shipping networks. By leveraging large-scale vessel tracking data and its related maritime datasets, we analyze patterns in shipping routes, port’s status, transport safety, and temporal variations in maritime activities.

These findings reveal insights into the operational behaviors of ports, shipping lines, and the responsiveness of maritime logistics to risk factors. Our research demonstrates how big data analytics can enhance the understanding of transportation systems, support decision-making for supply chain optimization, and contribute to more resilient and efficient maritime operations.
