ISblue in Transition Convention #1 – An Introspective Day

At a time when socio-environmental transformations (SET) are reshaping the challenges linked to the ocean and our societies, how can teaching practices evolve to train professionals and citizens who are aware, engaged and ready to take action?

The Blue Training Horizons team, the ISblue training programme’s flagship initiative supporting educational transformation, invited lecturers and academic researchers to take part in the ISblue in Transition Convention, a six-day programme designed to:

  • rethink teaching methods in response to the specific challenges facing marine and coastal environments;
  • encourage exchanges between peers from the six ISblue partner institutions in order to share knowledge and experience;
  • design practical tools, including workshops, feedback sessions and personalised support, to help integrate Socio-Ecological Transformation (SET) issues into courses, projects and curricula.

The first session, held on Thursday 2 October, was a great success. The 26 participants had the opportunity to:

  • discover innovative educational workshop formats, including the Deep Time Walk and the Responsible Organisations Fresk;
  • share experiences relating to the integration of SET issues within ISblue institutions;
  • reflect on their own needs and expectations in order to progress further on these topics.

This collection of needs, which is essential for Blue Training Horizons, will help shape a tailored support programme designed to strengthen the training of educators over the next three years.
