Maëliss MANAC’H completed a 4-month internship on the “Valorization of marine and freshwater microalgae proteins: comparative efficiency of physical, chemical and enzymatic cell lysis processes” in the Dupuy de Lôme Research Institute laboratory from March to July 2021.
“My Master 1 Biomolecules, Microorganisms and Bioprocesses (BMB) internship was a collaborative project with a Breton company BIOREA (Lamballe), specialized in the production of microalgae. The processed microalgae originated from this company before undergoing a cell lysis treatment to extract mainly proteins. The purpose of my internship was to compare the efficiency of several cell lysis processes.
This experience allowed me to deepen my knowledge on microalgae culture, by setting up protocols of protein assay until obtaining the amino acid profile. I had the opportunity to move around the company for 5 days during my internship and I had the chance to discover the whole culture process. I also met many students (both local and foreign), researchers and manufacturers, which allowed me to widen my professional network and to discover the world of research. This internship reinforced my choice of professional orientation.”
